Are you a trekking enthusiast but bounded by time? If the answer to the question is a simple nod of your head then Poon Hill trekking is the right choice for you. Situated in the Myagdi district, Poon Hill is a pre-dawn trek to a nearby hill from Ghorepani, immensely popular for watching the sunrise, making it one of the most popular treks in the Annapurna region.
The Poon Hill trek is a relatively easier and popular trekking route in Nepal. Reaching at an elevation of 3200 meters, the trek offers travelers with majestic and spectacular view of the sunrise spanning over the entire Annapurana Range and Dhaulagiri Range. Additionally, the trek also features hike through bamboo and rhododendron forests, allowing trekkers to enjoy and imbibe the beauty and diversity of Nepal’s flora and fauna.
Accommodation in tea houses during the trek is an experience in itself. Warm greetings and affordability offered by tea house owners reflects the hospitality and values of Nepalese culture in the Annapurna Region. Further, food prepared using organic and fresh vegetables grown locally in the region gives a unique and fulfilling taste to the trek. Also, menus in tea houses are full of variety of local specialties including Gurung Bread, noodles, dumplings, etc.
The trek to Poon hill starts from Nayapul, two-hour drive from Pokhara. Hiking along the Modi River from Nayapul to Tikhedhunga is one of the many highlights of this trek.
